Shifts In Society That Should Not Be Ignored.

November 17th, 2009

Over the last few years, there has been a noticable and fundamental shift in how and where people get information. Things have changed and if you’re marketing isn’t changing too, you and  your business will be left behind.

For many businesses, it’s already happening. Here’s the top 11 ways things have changed.

  1. Social Media has fundamentally changed the way people pass the time. Many who used to spend hours watching TV now spend it on Facebook and Twitter.
  2. Communication devices are changing at breakneck speed. Smart phones are taking over, with more and more people are checking Facebook, email, text messages, etc. while waiting in line, etc. Some people are ditching their landlines altogether and strictly using cell phones.
  3. Web 2.0 sites have made the web interactive. Web pages are no longer static. Clients and prospects can interact with your blog, Youtube channel, Facebook fan page, etc.
  4. Bad news can travel fast, and be hard to get rid of. Sites like RipOffReport.com have given unhappy consumers of info products an effective way to “get back”. Twitter can spread negative messages quickly as well. Local businesses are now having to contend with the “new yellow pages” – Google’s local listings – allowing comments from happy AND unhappy customers.
  5. Pre-purchase research on Google and Amazon has become a “way of life” for many prior to purchasing practically anything. Bad or good consumer reviews can instantly make or break the sale.
  6. Local search is fast replacing the Yellow Pages. Soon the only place you’ll see the Yellow Pages will be the Smithsonian.
  7. Email deliverability is going down. And people who used to communicate via email now communicate via Facebook, Twitter & text messages.
  8. An entire generation of pre-teens and teens are coming of age who have learned to communicate ALMOST exclusively via text messaging.
  9. Newspaper and magazine readership continues to plummet.
  10. The Top 1000 Alexa sites are mainly Web 2.0 sites – video sites, blogs, social media, social bookmarking, etc. Businesses that embrace web 2.0 strategies are being ranked higher, faster, leaving their Web 1.0 competition in the dust.;
  11. People are beginning to expect practically ALL websites for businesses to contain video(s).

How does this affect your business?

Are you looking at your marketing strategies to move with this shift in society?

Remember that this does not just effect the Internet Marketing businesses. All offline businesses that have a web presence will also be effected.

Do you think there is a business opportunity there……hmmmm

Ways to Find Readers for Your List Building Efforts

November 5th, 2009

List building is one of the most powerful niche marketing strategies you can use in your online efforts.

Once you’ve got a list, content and an opt-in squeeze page, how do you find people who will want to sign up for your list?

Forums can be great places for your list building efforts.

Forums are like deep pools full of nothing but your niche market.  If you do it right, collecting subscribers from a forum can be as easy as dipping a cup into water!

As with any other kind of forum marketing, don’t just charge in there trying to get people to sign up for your list.

Become well known as a helpful, informative person.  Once you have a reputation as someone who knows what they’re talking about, then you should put a link to your website or opt-in page into your signature.

Pay per click marketing can be a good idea.

This can get expensive if you’re not careful.  If you don’t have much experience with PPC marketing, make sure you set your daily ad spend maximum to something you can afford.

Keep in mind that not everybody who clicks on you link will necessarily want to sign up for your list.  Your sign-up rate will depend in part on the quality of your landing page, and partly on the keywords you use.

(This is why you should have some sort of tracking or analytics software in place.  Some keywords will give you a lot of visitors who want to sign up for your list, while others will do nothing but raise your Adwords bill!)

Why List Building Is Valuable

November 2nd, 2009

The goal of any business is to make the most profit possible from sales. Building a list often figures pretty far down on many business owners’ catalog of things to do to accomplish that goal, but it is far more important than many people realize. To keep a business moving forward and growing, it needs a following of loyal customers. That’s just part of what building a list can do for your business.

Building Loyalty
If you want loyal customers, you have to keep your business name in front of the people who are most likely to buy from you. To do that, they need to have your name presented to them regularly. This can be done with a newsletter that is sent out to interested customers, reminding them often about who you are and what you have to sell.

With a large enough list, you can count on a contingent of people who are interested in purchasing and that remember who is offering what they want. That sets you apart from the competition and keeps you at the front of the minds of your customers.

Building Repeat Customers
When a past customer signs up for your list, you have an individual who has already been willing to buy from you. All you have to do to turn that first time customer into a repeat customer is to keep marketing to them until they are sufficiently convinced to buy from you again.

Most people who are successful online have a few things that they promote and sell. Anytime you add something to the list of items that you sell, you will have a built-in audience to market to if you have been building a list. You can even offer your list members special deals on the new items that you have to sell. A special coupon code that is just for the members of your list is a great draw to keep list members interested and can be used to attract new clients.

Continue List Building
Even when you have a sizeable list built, you still need to draw in new people constantly. Some people will eventually opt out of your list. Others will change email addresses and will not receive your new messages. To replace these members, keep building your list continuously to keep growing your business and to maintain the size of your customer base. For all of these reasons, it’s well worth any Web marketer’s time to generate a growing list.
