Finding Niche Markets, Part II

July 16th, 2009

The fastest way to generate massive amounts of money online is to sell products in the area where people are currently searching for. However, the question always remains “How do I know what people are looking for right now?” I’m going to cover 8 different free sources where you can find the hottest topic online right now.

1. Google Trends is the first place you can visit to find out the hottest topics for the day (where people are searching in Google Search Engine for).

2. Lycos Top 50 is very similar to Google Trends, where you can find out the hottest topics people are searching for (topics in which people are searching for in the Lycos Search Engine).  The difference is that this list is updated weekly, unlike Google Trends, which is updated daily.

3. Yahoo Buzz gives you the top 10 searches by people in the Yahoo Search Engines, and this list is updated hourly. You can also see what people are “buzzing” (discussing) about in the various categories such as Entertainment, Video, Sports, People, etc.

4. eBay Pulse. You can find out the hottest items people are looking to buy from eBay Pulse. In eBay Pulse, you’ll see a list of top 10 popular searches in eBay. This list will give you an idea of physical products that people are currently looking to buy (a BIG, BIG clue on where most money is being spent).

5. Amazon Bestsellers is another place where you can find exactly what people are looking to spend money on.

6. Magazines.com. By looking into what are the top-selling magazines in Magazines.com, it will give you an idea on the areas in which people are interested in.

7. Similar to eBay Pulse and Amazon’s Bestsellers list, Shopping.com’s Top Searches list also lists down the top items that people buy in Shopping.com, in the various categories. Shopping.com updates these search results once every two weeks.

8. In AOL Hot Searches, you can find the top searches in the AOL Search Engine in the various categories:

- Top Electronic & Gadget Searches
- Top Celebrity Searches
- Top Auto Searches
- Top Movie Searches
- Top Music Searches
- Top TV Program Searches
- Top Personal Finance Searches
- Top Vacation Destination Searches

That’s it for today. Good fortune to everyone.

Finding Niche Markets

July 3rd, 2009

There are niche markets out there that have not even been tapped yet or if they have they are poorly filled niches.

Finding a niche market is not the problem these days. It’s quite easy once you  know how. There are many, many ways to find niche markets. Are they profitable? Well you can use software such as Micro Niche Finder, or you can browse your local library and/or bookstore, or even magazine subscription web sites for common ideas.

The problem is, just because a keyword or keyword phrase is popular or there are hundreds of books available on a particular topic doesn’t really mean that people are willing to spend their hard earned currency on a similar online offering.

It doesn’t matter how well you know your topic, if people in that market don’t spend on online products, then your niche idea is doomed from the start.

Where are people looking to spend their money online?

Look where people are buying in real time for the answer. EBay. Your ultimate niche source.

Technique

Go to www.ebay.com, when the home page loads click on the “Buy” on the top menu.

You should now be on the “Buy page”. Leaving the Search field blank and All Categories selected in the drop down list (This should be the default) click on the Search button.

You should now see the “All Categories page”. This shows you every product currently for sale on eBay in real time. Here you can also see how many products are for sale for each category and sub-category. Now let’s see how we might find a popular niche market.

Click “See all Sporting Goods categories…” you will see hundreds of niche markets within the Sporting Goods category right there.

Now this is niche marketing. The category “Sporting Goods” alone is very broad indeed. If you go after this one, your doomed, however if you go after a sub category such as “Fishing> Fly fishing” or “Fishing> Rod Building and Repair”, you niche market chances are looking brighter.

Now click on the “Sell” on the top menu, then “Seller Central” on the bottom menu. Select the “What’s Hot” topic, then “Hot Items By category”.
