Affordable SEO – Faster Results With Less Competitive Words

July 31st, 2010 by Ashley No comments »

If your SEO company has been telling you that it will take a minimum of 6 months for you to rank on the search engines you can be sure that the information is not very accurate. Its not that they are lying but just that they might not have the right kind of resources or they might not be updated with the right SEO techniques.

While a lot of companies and marketers believe that ranking is important for keywords that have high search volumes, they are absolutely correct. But behind the high search volume they forget to realize that the competition is equally high and hence you have to wait for 6 months before you can get a half decent rank for your website.

So what’s the way out?

Well, the ultimate aim of SEO for you is to get traffic on your site, you might not care for which keyword you rank as long as there are a good amount of people coming to your site.

Here is the catch!

Your SEO provider optimizes the site for 5 keywords which have an average search volume of 3000 for instance. So you are basically targeting 15000 customers if you rank in the top 5 for that keyword. However these are intensely competitive keywords so you’ll have to wait for long before you see your name there. On an average you would have spend USD 500/month to get there, which means that you spend USD 3000 for getting to the top. Is that a good ROI?

Rather you can opt for more keywords that have lesser competition. Like 30 keywords with an average search volume of just 500, the competition is not that severe but because of the higher number of keywords you might have to pay a little higher. Lets say USD 750/month but within 3 months you are on the top which means that you are still getting exposure to 15000 but the amount you pay to reach them is USD 2250 not USD 3000, a savings of USD 750!

Be updated about what your SEO company is doing, demand reports so that you can avoid being scammed.

PCI DSS compliance – Why to take it seriously ?

July 31st, 2010 by Ashley No comments »

From many years the credit card provider companies pushing the merchants to use PCI DSS compliance which is a complete set of rules and regulation for ensuring the highest level of security to the card owner like card information, billing details. However, even then companies are not taking this issue seriously.

Knowingly all these aspects merchants procrastinate, we already have many incidents in which hackers had done many transaction by penetrating the secure networks and compromising the credit and debit cards. It is very much possible for hackers to have any kind of decrypting algorithm which can grant them access to the PIN (personal identification number) and other personal information. And having this much of information with them they can do everything what you do with your credit card like shopping, transaction etc.

Many big companies like TJX Companies Inc have suffered the hackers attack and had a great loss also with these incidents we know that the problem is not poor security. In other words the large companies even develop quite good security system but they do not understand the other areas which are prone to threats. They spend a lot of resources and also time but could not concentrate the different possibility which can cause the problem, and how to protect their system against these kinds of attacks.

The industry of PCI was always aware of this fact that, if this kind of breach continues to grow then the result might be breaking down their system’s integrity. So they are now imposing the penalties and fines to the merchants who are not following the PCI DSS compliance. The ranges of penalties start from $300 and may equal to the all false transaction done from the credit cards.

Now for industries to become PCI DSS compliant is a smart business trend. As latest technology gives us a free way to transects and buy anything, anywhere it also gives the criminals new methods to hack or steal money from us. So taking PCI DSS compliance is a smart decision to make yourself safe from breach and your customers to have secure transactions.

Unique Web Design Ideas That Work For Homepages

July 30th, 2010 by Ashley No comments »

The perfect homepage is the top priority of website design and could be the reason for a website’s success or failure. A first impression can cause a person to stay and explore or recoil and click away permanently. If the latter is true, a webmaster will be sure to have low profits and few visitors. Worse, the website will have a poor ranking and won’t have back-links from other websites.

The website’s success can be dramatically improved if you avoid these simple mistakes.
Things You Must Avoid When You Are Designing Your Landing Page:
Before the webmaster can determine what a problem is, basic faults in the design of the home page must be addressed.
The following should be easy to correct:
* Avoid endless blocks of text, especially if the text is not large enough to read easily. Be certain that you break paragraphs into small, readable pieces with plenty of subheadings.
* Don’t use confusing page layout.
* Avoid use of multiple graphics and applications on a single page.
* Make it easy to navigate your website.
* Have absolutely no tolerance for typographical & grammatical errors.
* Keep the colors subdued.
* Use graphics of a high quality.
* Don’t allow your website look spammy.
* Be certain that your pages will load fast.
* Use pertinent images of good quality.
* Don’t blast your visitors with music unexpectedly.
* Have absolutely no tolerance for pop-ups.
* Don’t use odd looking graphics.
* Be certain that all types of browsers will be able to view your entire site.
* Keep your landing page fresh and current. Make sure your website image is crisp and up-to-date.

The following are examples of a few problems that will require a more intensive look. Feedback from others in dealing with them would be helpful.
* Be clear about what the product is.
* Focus on the target demographic.
* Avoid having an opening page that is confusing or gives information that is contradictory.
* If there is no promise of anything new or different on the homepage, people will not stay.

If you want to experience successful website e-commerce, this last point is of the utmost importance. Your personal webpage is similar to a storefront. When creating a homepage for a small corporate website, the webmaster must view the site as a visitor would. Potential viewers will be lured in by quality content, unique subject matter, regular updates, and the promise of useful information in the future. One great thing you can do is to add a subscription box that allows visitors to be notified when your site has been updated or improved.

How to Fix Your Landing Page:
First, find out what people like to see, and incorporate that into your page as appropriate. This will help the success of your website. Make an anonymous questionnaire so your clients can give you their views on the appearance of your website without worrying about your feelings!

Suggestions for a Good Homepage:
A homepage with a good appearance is important for a business website to be profitable. Simple matters like the appearance of the text and images can do wonders to better the site’s performance. The secret is to make it simple. What you leave out is as important as what you put in. Remember that a questionnaire soliciting feedback from your visitors may be your best tool in improving your website.

Web Design Analysis

July 29th, 2010 by Ashley No comments »

<!– @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>

With the use of more online technologies the web designer’s have started to create interesting designs apart from using simple images and HTML/CSS coding. Clients also want to see more creative work with the higher level of functionality and interactivity. This is because more website today make use of the things like Ajax and JavaScript. In short it can be said that static websites are dead now-a-days.

On the other hand designs that are grid-based are gaining more importance today. For example we can take mobile designs, retro designs and many more. But you can see these designs only in the product, blogs and portfolio pages. With huge amount of data, one classify the information based on the context apart from the content since this will be the best method for the companies to handle the huge amount of data.

Now-a-days print designs are of great inspiration to the web designer’s to make their layout. This will also include white spaces, grid usage and elements hierarchy. As a result the layouts created by the web designer’s resemble the print magazines posters with the striking headlines, quotations, side notes, supporting images and footnotes.

The other things that is gaining more importance today is the browser capability. Web designers are taking care that the designs they create fits in all the web browsers like Google chrome, Firefox, safari and opera. They are also making sure that the text are easily readable in all browsers and platforms.

Designer’s of web application development are now paying more importance to the functionality which can be used to improve user interaction and response. At present designer’s are more clear on usability and create site with minimal design which is easily navigable to the web surfers. Some designers have an attempt to provide horizontal scroll bars to make the design more distinct user interface. The best option to make the site more user-friendly is to provide key-press navigation which has been not adopted till now. But in the near future will be able to see more designers will be using this effectively.

The other new feature that is gaining more importance is the slab typefaces which is relatively a new feature in logos and headers which is more smaller and understated by the web designers.

Rich and strong typography has a major role to play in web design for the years to come. This is because bold, strong, headlines will make the e commerce websites very effective and on the other hand subtler headings helps to improve the structure of the website and its also improves the legibility. At the same time the big change that is seen in the web design world is the improvement in the typography which is becoming richer and more versatile.

Apart from these the more growing trends are embossing, PNG transparency, user interface, replacement of fonts, use of big images, modal boxes, media blocks, magazine look, introduction block, etc. will be a growing trend in the near future.

The main concept that lies in creating more online business is through managing the web experience and to deliver the correct business value. So in the near future web typography is going to reach the hew heights.

Points to ponder when you create a website

July 29th, 2010 by Ashley No comments »

Internet today is the most powerful medium of communication and interaction. Gone are the days when only a few people had their websites and they were considered an oddity. Now, everyone seems to have some kind of a presence on the web. Some have their websites, while other are their through microblogging sites and social networking sites. The world has shrunk and boundaries do not matter anymore for those who have a presence on the net. As compared to offline business, which is limited to a particular place and time, online business has tremendous growth opportunities. First thing needed for an online presence is to create a website. Everyday thousands of websites are added to the already present number and there are countless websites today. Millions of people surf the net and open billions of web pages. Good sites are visited more than those which are not proper and difficult to navigate.

There are many important things to ponder upon when you create a website. First and foremost is the search engine optimization, without which even the most beautiful site may be useless as it will not get visitors, leaving alone getting business. What use is having a good website when people will not come to it? SEO content means having some keywords which make your site appear in the top results. These key words must be related to your product or service, for e.g. if your site is about pets, you can use words like dogs, canines, dog food and so on. SEO content is responsible for drawing visitors to your site; after that you are on your own.

Make your homepage very attractive and interesting. The layout should be easy and the color scheme should be pleasing to the eyes. The site must open up quickly, and the visitor must be able to navigate on the page smoothly. These things have a positive impact on any visitor. So paying attention to these factors is important when you create a website. The links you give should be genuine and relevant to your subject matter.

Just as you have a name that is your identity, your website should have a name known as domain name or URL. You should choose a name that is different yet focused on your business, and easy to recollect. If people have difficulty in recollecting the name, they will not come to your site.

Just to create a website is not enough to have a presence on the web. You need to have a web host, which is a company that provides you space on the web. There are lots of web hosting companies, and you have to choose one that is suitable for your requirements and is reputable as far its services are concerned. If they reply to your mail quickly, you can be assured that they will provide good service. Also check the speed with which sites open on their server. The web host must have a solid customer support staff, so that in case of any difficulty in future, you can contact them easily. If you keep these factors in mind when you create a website, you can be assured of having a good business.
